my mom goes to work at 1:00 am everyday(except the weekend) and she wakes me up out of my sleep every morning to watch her in the car to make sure she gets in safe...i have no problem with that, but the thing i do have a problem with is me going back to sleep! im 14 yrs old alone in a house at 1:00 in the morning! i just keep thinking someone is going to break in, eventhough my house is as secure as it can possibly get...we have an alarm system, theres bars on the doors and windows and i have a dog that will definetly warn me if someone is in the house! but i still keep thinking im not safe!...what should i do?!

  1. prayer

listen to relaxing music as you try to fall asleep

  2. Being alone in a house can be spooky even for some adults. Show this question to your mother and talk to her about what can be done. School starts soon and you definitely need your sleep. My suggestion is to have your mom go to work without waking you up. Is it possible for mom to carpool to work? This would eliminate the need to wake you. Otherwise, have friends spend the night. Maybe a few friends could rotate?

  3. Try to calm down. Your house is well protected, and you might just be paranoid.

If this is a serious problem for you, you might consider asking for professional help, because you may have an anxiety disorder.

  4. you are programed ,the bars on the windows and alarm system say it all ,you have been programed from birth to fear . your mom wakes you to see her out because she is afraid.

im not sure about a cure. if you fear strangers maybe you need more exposure, spend some time at the mall ,speak to people say hello ,start a conversation,i bet your isolated, get involved in a group activity,if you fear a particular group, blacks or  Hispanics, for instance make sure they get represented in your group you need exposure to people and events to free you from fear so go out and get exposed....................tom

  5. I hope that you don't live in a bad area, and your mom just takes extra measures here. With all of the security things, if anyone were to even try, they would seriously run away if they don't have a heart attack first. I hate to say this, but your mom is actually pushing your fear further. It is understandable if you live in a bad area of your city, but you need to realize that nothing is going to come get you or rob you. If it is that bad, you two need to move away from there.

Otherwise, talk with your mom and figure out why she is so afraid and how you are afraid to go back to sleep, and how you can overcome this. Maybe if she gets a babysitter type person to stick around after she leaves or something.
