I am 15 years old, turning 16 in May. I live in Summerfield, NC; I attended Northern Guilford Highschool until christmas then switched to kestone highschool which is a homeschool program. I switched to homeschool because northern only offered honors courses and for the previous 6 years I attended a Private christian school in Stokesdale, NC which is a small southern baptist school that did not push us hard at all, mainly focused on God and the Bible and did not prepare you for college at all. That made northern very hard especially since it was all honors on a regular seven class schedule. i am almost half way done with the three courses i am enrolled in at keystone which are geometry, civics, and english 2 and i have atleast two more courses to do to finish the 10th grade. I cannot stay focused during the day and do my work i get destracted very easily. Does anybody have any advice on what i can do?!?!

  1. Make sure you're getting lots of sleep at night.  Set yourself up in a room with no available distractions.  Get the things you don't like as much done first.  Then the more likable stuff will be easier to work through.  Take regular breaks.  Give yourself rewards when you get it all done.

To Piggy...Why would you copy and paste Caesar's answer?  Who does that?  Can you not think up your own answer?

Added:  Don't you just love when people show up and give a thumbs down to everybody, but have no better answer to offer?

  2. Im 14 years old and homeschool and i have the same problem i just try to focus as much as i can Its really hard but you gotta do it

  3. a glass of wine kept me focussed LOL

something tells me that might not fly though.

i think what you need to do is remove all distractions. if you get watching tv or playing video games or something, then get out of the house and go study in the forest or somewhere you can be alone, where all you can do is study.

ultimately it just comes down to how bad you want it, and if you want it bad enough youll just have to force urself to do it.

im supposed to be studying for a computer course right now, but im on yahoo answers instead since i dont want it bad enough LOL. if it were philosophy id be on it like a fat kid on a smartie. maybe bang off your compulsory credits first then focus on something you enjoy more, its always more motivating

you should just try and sstay focoused

  4. You apparently need the structure of regular classes (it is even possible that you have ADD). If Northern seems too hard for you at this point in time, can you get admitted to another local high school? You will probably also need some tutoring on the side. You are smart to take your studies seriously and think ahead to the demands of college. The guidance counselor at Northern may be able to help you find the right solution. Best wishes and good luck to you.
