  1. I just recently went into DEP...I don't leave until February 09, but my recruiters are always asking if I want to leave earlier, because they know that I was expecting to...

Talk to your recruiter.  He can put a request in for you, and you may not have very much notice, but you probably will leave earlier...

  2. Well, it depends, I shipped out early for my rate, i went into SECF (submarine Electronics Computer Field) i was going to ship out in november, but talking to my recruiter i got it forwarded to september, exactly 2 months earlier. It depends on the needs of the navy. But usually people have second thoughts while in the DEP program and they go and do something stupid and loose their rate. A few people from my Station had it happen to them, Just talk to your recruiter if your serious about it. But i have some regrets shipping out early, you don't realize how nice it is just sitting around the house doing nothing, having no plans, Once you ship out your life is changed (for the better) but you will never have those lazy days of summer again, enjoy it, but Talk to your recruiter if you want to get in early!

Wish you luck, and what is your rate? Im a Sonar technician. Been in for a year now!

  3. How about Volunteering.  Think of things that you're passionate about, maybe do something at a Veteran's Hospital, or work with animals, etc.

  4. congrats you chose the best branch!  start working out and preparing yourself mentally because bootcamp is just mind games, its easy as F*&k once you realize that.  other than that just spend time with your friends and family and have fun cause it might be a while before you see them again, especially if you get put on a ship, which pray you do because its hard work but you get to see the world!! GO NAVY

  5. If your school requires you to wait, it will be worth it.  Think of it this way you're embarking on an adventure. I spent 21 years in the Navy and it's worth it. The Navy now provides all my meds, commissary and exchange privileges and pays the mortgage on the house. It's a sweet deal!  After you get out you can go to college on the GI bill.Bide your time, serve with honor.
