  1. You have good answers...just to add...some people are built shorter through the trunk and this is more of a problem for them.

  2. Well, if you are used to not having to sit the canter it can be very awkward. You just have to remember to sit back really deep in the seat it might feel like your falling back. Also what can help is get someone that you are comfortable with and that your horse is comfortable with to lunge while your on his back at a canter. Then you can focus on your seat more. But, thats just an option. . .

    I hope this helps! =]

  3. Hmm it's hard to tell what youre doing wrong without a description. Details please? But it sounds like you arent leanin far back enough. Suck your stomach in, shoulders back and keep your calf and knee back.

  4. I had this problem also, try to do no stirrups while cantering for a week or two, it might be hard and hurtful, but it helps you get the right positioning and once you get you feet back in the saddle, it wont hurt anymore

  5. Sit upright and try to push your weight through your heels; you should be deep in the saddle. Don't lean too far back because then you and the horse will be out of balance, but if you lean forward while sitting (as opposed to the showjumping canter, where you lean forward), you're just going to get the same result with the pelvis.

    Best of luck!

  6. It sounds like you aren't relaxed and dropping your weight into your heels and evenly balanced on the horse. You need to be relaxed yet, freely moving your pelvis with the horse. If it feels like your being "snatched" then your mostly likely behind the center of his balance.

If you do get behind when he moves forward from the rear his propulsion will feel like it's slamming your pelvis up & forward.

Hard to describe but it actually helps to ride with someone lunging and shut your eyes. Concentrate on "feeling" his motion. Feel for that outside rear foot to push off. That his where his propulsion comes from at the lope so you need to relax your hips to move forward with that motion. Make sure your your pelvis, stomach and back are totally relaxed so you can move freely with the horse.

It might also help you to get a feel for the horses rythym by cantering a few circles in 2-point position.

  7. Sit deep in the saddle and push you stomach at.

    Lean back not forward.

  8. You could try to stand up a bit in the stirrups. Just enough so you don't go slamming into your saddle. Then try to sit down and go with the flow for a few strides. I don't know if you just need to got used to his gait [I'm not sure how long you have been riding that particular horse] or if the horse just has an off-gait. See if he can go any slower in a canter and just get used to moving with the horse.

  9. this is so normal . it happens to me all the time to me  haily juinor horse back champion.it means you aren't balancing

your legs. this should be easy to solve try balancing your body i'm sure it will work.

                     good

                            luck
