Canterbury U17&13 Championships: Daniel Cleminson, Josh Finnie win Boy’s Doubles title
Boy’s Doubles team Daniel Cleminson-Josh Finnie emerged as champion in Under 17 event of Canterbury U17&13 Championships on Sunday, June 10, 2012.
The victorious duo stamped their opponents Mitchell Wilson-Chris Zhu by registering final figures of 21-13 and 21-18 in just two games.
Daniel Cleminson and Josh Finnie forged a fruitful chemistry and completely outclassed their rivals in all areas of the game.
On the other hand, the opposing team could not stand in front of their intensive invasion and knelt down after losing two consecutive sets.
In opening set of the match, the top seeded duo Daniel Cleminson-Josh Finnie displayed unbeatable badminton skills and ensured their dominance straight away in the beginning.
They dominated five consecutive rallies in the start and got into commanding position with 5-0 margin. Their coordination was superb and their strategy was right from the coaching book as many times they beat their competitor’s move even before it was made.
This initial advantage helped them to proceed with great ease as their challengers could not hold pressure of a big day and missed many opportunities of counterattack.
Daniel and Josh Finnie ended first half with a respectable total of 11-7 and entered in third quarter of the game with great confidence.
However, things went out of their control immediately after the interval as Mitchell Wilson-Chris Zhu pushed them on back foot with couple of power packed rallies.
The second seeded duo of the event brought life back into contest with an electrifying performance but it was not enough to avoid a first set loss as Daniel and Josh Finnie reinstated their supremacy and finished this race with 21-13 score on the board.
Next game was full of sensation as both teams snapped each other’s heels to achieve their respective goals.
They remained toe-to-toe and did not allow each other to establish a comfortable lead until game point situation.
In the beginning, Mitchell Wilson and Chris Zhu were under pressure after first blow but they got back into business with some favourable rallies.
The match kept swinging between two contenders all the way to final moments but the twosome of Daniel-Josh managed to secure the honour with a significant total of 21-18.
