Canterbury thumps Taranaki by 27-0 in ITM Cup fixture - Rugby News
Canterbury has dumped Taranaki by a large difference of 27-0 in the 11th round of the ITM Cup 2011 on August 20th in Rugby Park, Christchurch. The stunning victory over the Naki’s has put the Canterbury side on top of the tables with 27 points.
The Canterbury side displayed a flawless show to clinch the third consecutive victory in the tournament and outclassed the Naki’s in every facet of the game. They were outstanding with their front packs, rock solid in the defending lines and accurate with
the spinning of the pill.
Canterbury rushed away with an early try in the match with just three minutes in the field as Johnny McNicholl crossed the white line with great ease. The side missed the conversion shot which could further enhance their lead in the match. However, they
had not waited long to boost their total with another try. This time it was Sean Maitland who tore apart Naki’s defence.
Meanwhile, Taranaki was provided with a lollypop chance to score a three pointer which was missed by Jack Cameron during the 19th minute of the match. Taranaki made repeated attacks on the Canterbury scoring areas but were denied every time.
Canterbury raised its total to 17-0 just before half-time with some awesome work from Ash Paker. Canterbury could smell the victory at the end of first-half as their rivals were looking off the colours.
The second-half was also all about Canterbury as they scored 10 more points after the break. Robbie Fruean scored the final try for Canterbury during the 74th minute of the match and secured a bonus point for his team. Canterbury was leading with
27-0 as referee blew the final whistle.
