http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AJ-Redmond-c963 starred for Otago with two massive centuries as the Volts went on to claim an 8-wicket win over the Canterbury Wizards in their Plunket Shield match, played at the Mainpower Oval in Rangiora from October 27 to 30.
The match kicked off with Canterbury winning the toss and electing to bat first. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jimmy-Neesham-c1697, and Mark Craig
all picked up one wicket each.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Todd-Astle-c2697, who scored a massive 95, in addition to setting up a 64-run
partnership for the 8th wicket with Ben McCord (17), followed by an 80-run stand with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/William-Meehan-Lonsdale-c97593 (35).
However, none of the batsmen were able to apply themselves at the crease for too long, and on the first day, by the 82nd over, Canterbury were all out at 297.
Otago’s first innings was largely driven by Redmond’s massive 133, as well as his opening stand of 186 runs with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hamish-Duncan-Rutherford-c61359 (91). The partnership came to an end with the dismissal of Rutherford off Tim Johnston – however, Redmond went on to set up
another solid partnership, this time a 67-run stand with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Gordon-Bracewell-c75912 (16).
The rest of the middle order remained lacklustre, and Neesham and Craig were both dismissed on duck by Johnston. The 22-year-old off-spinner claimed 5 for 105 for Canterbury during Otago’s first innings, and was aided by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lonsdale-c73120 (2/82) and McCord (2/54).
However, the Volts found some respite in the innings of Ian Butler (34), and posted a final total of 383, all out, on Day 2.
Canterbury’s second innings got off to a shaky start, with Craig (5/120) and Wagner (3/30) leaving the Wizards faltering under the weight of four early dismissals – by the 14th over, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stewart-c91370 (0), and Fulton (13)
had all been sent packing, leaving Canterbury at 34 for 4.

the Volts a final target of 267.
However, the chase posed no difficulties for Otago – Redmond smashed yet another stellar century (123), while Michael Bracewell (88*) managed a fluent unbeaten half-ton. Rutherford (26) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Neil-Broom-c2090 (25*) also chipped in with supporting performances, and
by the 69th over, with just 2 wickets down, Otago reached 267, claiming an easy 8-wicket win.
