  1. It IS nerve racking, a lot of us get nervous when we learn to canter. If it shows that you are nervous you won't do well, because your horse knows that you are nervous and will either bolt straight into charging mode or refuse to do it. Cantering is fun, and you will love it! I was so scared when I started, and since I was scared I fell off, but now I am confident to canter and I don't fall off! I learned when I was five, and my teacher said to either sing "Mary had a Little Lamb" or the alphabet. It really helps because it takes your focus on the singing instead of falling off.

Try these tips, they will really help!!!

  2. Sorta. But i was on a really great Lesson Horse

  3. My horse has quite a bouncy canter and I've just learnt my canter too. I was nervous because my horse is quite forward-moving and will go into a gallop quite easily by himself.

To be honest, the first time I had a canter (not purposefully) on my big horse, I ended up being thrown forward out of the saddle and cantering around on his neck! I stayed on thank god. But if you are worried about your horse taking off then lunge him/her first to get that bit of bounce out if it. Enjoy your ride!!

  4. Well the first time i cantered it was in the winter abut 5-6 years ago and some inconsiderate lady just swings the door open and slams it scaring my horse he then rears up and the reins brake i roll off my horse backward and  the horse then runs out and the stable is buy route 59 in Illinois so shes not even worried about me she OMG the horse i hope the horse is okay.

i'm like hello any one going to help me (I was only 7 at the time)

But i got back on i was a little nerves to canter again we had to get a new bridle and i couldn't belive how smooth the ride was way better than trotting trust me

  5. at first i was REALLY nervous but my instructor helped me through it all.

    i wouldn't worry about a thing!

    =D

it will be so so so so much fun!

    good luck.

  6. yeah you get over it fairly quick though lol that brings back good times i remember accidentally cantering was my first time and i was so surprised and confused but yeah you'll get used to the movement and your back will slowly start to move with the horse so its not so yucky feeling have fun though

  7. no, I was all for it, but its okay, most people I know are all scared b4 they canter and then they love it and cant see why they were scared...

It is actually alot more comfortable than trotting, and most lesson horses have a slow canter.... It is a wonderful feeling, try not to get nervous because the horse can tell.... It is awesome, the first time you feel it!!! Have fun!!!

  8. it can be very scary at first!!

but one thing you have to remember is horses can sence your fear..

    just try to relax!

cantering is very easy and is alot smother then a trot!

    i love it!

and im sure you will too.

just make sure you trust your horse and you will be fine!! :)

  9. yes the first few times I bounced around but I learned 3 weeks ago and I'm perfect now!

  10. I was a little nervous when I first learned how to canter because I thought I might fall off, but when I actually did canter (on the lunge line the first time) it was rlly kewl, and I couldn't stop smiling lol :D The hardest part for me is turning. But over all, it's SO much fun! Just move your hips with the horse, stay relaxed, and have fun! Maybe you could ask your instructor if you canter canter on the lunge line first to get the feel of it, and then when your ready you can go freely :) I don't even know why I was nervous, it's amazing! You will love it, good luck!

  11. yes i was actually i cried but after i did it i smiled ear to ear and it is so much fun jst do it on a very trained horse

  12. i really nevous when first tryied i never wonted to do it ever again. then i got a riding teacher she made and now i love canter now its painful just to walk i love it so much! try do much as posable u will learn to love trust me!!!!!

  13. honestly I was too little to care lol. i was put on a really calm easy rocking chair canter horse and rode him around for about a half an hour learning to sit a canter and let go of the horn. personally i prefer to canter rather than trot. i find it to be smoother once you learn it. a western horses lope would be the best thing to try first in my opinion if you can. it's really smooth and easier to learn than an english horses collected canter, again my opinion only. some people prefer the english canter to the lope.

  14. i was scared too. If you're too nervous, or get yourself worked up about it, try trotting over a little cross rail and the horse will most likely cantering out of it. that helped me ALOT.

  15. canter him up a hill gives you more control and he,s less likly to bolt on you and i he does take relax and jab at his mouth rather than try to pull him remember he doesn,t have wheels

  16. Yes i was kinda nervous. But once you go and get your horse into a canter it is the funnest thing that you will ever do. you really can't get me on a horse without canterin. I love it and you shouldn't be afraid because it is a lot smoother that a trot. you just go a lil faster. But there really usn't n e thing to worry about because your horse will take care of you and it has probably cantered before so don't worry about anything you will be just fine. And a little bit of advice. Try not to hang on to the saddle horn because it throws you off balance but just try i tried to hold onto the saddle horn recently and i am a pretty good rider and it threw me off balance bad. so just try. good luck = )

  17. It can be a little scary the first couple of times. Just stay relaxed and alert to what's going on. I'm sure it won't be as scary for you as it was for me. I learned on a two year old who had only been cantered one other time. Just try to pick up the feel of the gait. It might help if you have the horse on a longe line. That way you can get comfortable with the movement and feel of the gait without having to worry about where you're going or the speed.

  18. i kinda want to canter but im like u im nervous the ppl at the stable i ride at say there r alot of gud horses dat can teach u how to canter kinda gud there starter horses for cantering n stuff like dat

  19. Maybe have someone lung the horse in a circle while you cant so someone else is holding onto the horse, you wont  be as scared?
