Patrick Cantlay leads as second round of Travelers Championship suspended due to poor visibility
Much to the disappointment of fans, the second round of Travelers Championship has been suspended due to poor visibility. According to the tournament officials, it will resume at 7.00 am, local time. The event is being held at TPC
River Highland, Cromwell.
For the second time in two days, the tournament has been put on halt. On Thursday, rain made the course unplayable and the round was rescheduled for Friday morning. Similar delay was seen in the Friday afternoon, when heavy thunderstorm
hit the course and forced the officials to blow the horn. When the round resumed late in the evening, darkness descended, making it difficult for the players to see.
Owing to the delay, 27 players failed to complete their rounds and will tee-off on Saturday morning to settle the unfinished business. Included in that list of players are the FedEx champion Jim Furyk, Kris Blanks, Ben Crane, Vijay
Singh, Sean O’ Hair, Zach Johnson, Nick Watney and first round leader Michael Bradley.
Meanwhile, there was one player who marveled the crowd with his superb play. American Patrick Cantlay, an amateur, teed-off from the front and smashed a score of 10-under-par, 60 with the help of eight birdies and one eagle. The amateur’s
putter was on fire, which was evident from the sizzling putts per green stats that he added to his scorecard. He recorded an average of 1.467 in them.
Moreover, he is one of the few amateurs to produce two consecutive rounds in 60s, which is a huge accomplishment.
Looking at the coming rounds with sheer confidence, the player said, “I’m going to try and take care of business this week and then see what’s going on, but I’m going to stay amateur definitely for the Walker Cup, and my plans are
to stay amateur, you know, until I finish college.”
Cantlay finished 21st in the US Open last week and on Friday, he relished success in setting the course's lowest at TPC River Highlands, one of most deadliest courses in the region.
Looking at the rocketed pace of the player, Cantlay seems bound to finish in the Top 5 by the end of the week, provided, the weather does not turn the tables on him.
