Calculate the genotype frequencies: p2 -the frequency of the dominant homozygotes; 2pq –the frequency of heterozygotes; and q2 –the frequency of the recessive homozygotes. Explain why p2 and q2 represent the proportion of dominant and recessive homozygotes, respectively, and why 2pq represents the proportion of heterozygotes.

  1. when you make a cross between two heterozygotes (Aa), you get AA=homozygous dom, two Aa=heterozygotes, and aa=homozygous recessive....so a total of 4 offspring...the frequencies will be

    homozygous dominant AA(1out of 4) = 25%

    heterozygous recessive Aa(2 out of 4) = 50%

    homozygous recessive aa(1 out of 4) = 25%
