Cao Yuan and Zhang Yanquan win Men’s Synchronised 10m Platform heat – 18th FINA Diving World Cup
The Chinese pair of Cao Yuan and Zhang Yanquan went on a rampage and won Men’s Synchronised 10m Platform on fourth day of the continued 18th Federation Internationale de Natation Amateur (FINA) Visa Diving World Cup 2012 at the Aquatics Centre, Olympic Park in London on Thursday, February 23.
Yuan and Yanquan stifled their opponents with their thrashing performance in the 10m Synchronised discipline. The duo remained comfortably ahead of their competitors throughout the event and qualified in the final round as the best pair.
The Diving World Cup is of significant importance as it paves the way for the 2012 London Olympic Games and provides a chance to all world-class divers to warm up before the mega event.
The Chinese duo proved their mettle for the best qualification spot by obtaining a wonderful score of 456.45 points. With their stupendous efforts, they remained almost fourteen points ahead of Illya Zakharov and Victor Minibaev of Russia, who followed them into the final with a score of 442.62 points.
The Russian duo enjoyed an advantage of just 1.44 points over Ivan Alejandro Garcia and German Sanchez of Mexico, who entered the second round by accomplishing a score of 441.18 points.
USA’s David Boudia and Nick McCrory remained significantly behind the Mexican pair as they accumulated 416.64 points for fourth position. The arena witnessed scintillating form of Germany’s Patrick Hausding and Sascha Klein, who tried to overpower the struggles of American divers but stayed nearly five points behind them and ended fifth with a score of 411.63 points.
The sixth position of the event was secured by Great Britain’s Thomas Daley and Peter Waterfield, who achieved 402.15 points. Jeinkler Aguirre and Jose A.Guerra of Cuba proved their eligibility for seventh position in the preliminary round of the event by scoring 398.40 points.
The eighth finest spot was secured by Kevin Alan Geyson and Eric Sehn of Canada, who captured 394.23 points.
The Chinese duo is just one round away from clinching gold medal of the 10m diving event while the championship will conclude on February 26 after the completion of all scheduled events.
