Cao Yupeng trashes Ali Carter in Round 1 of 2012 Australian Goldfields Open – Snooker Update
Spectators present at the Bendigo Stadium arena in Victoria to watch their favourite potters, witness a major upset at the venue where a mere rookie, Cao Yupeng from China took over the former two-time World Snooker Championship runner up, England’s Ali
Carter and defeated him by the score line of 5-3.
The match up was expected to finish in Carter’s favour but the tables turned when the Chinese cueman bounced back into the game to see off the English potter.
The clash was an outstanding display of brilliant snooker skills from both ends as the pair left nothing to chance to capitalise during their run. The signs of Carter’s defeat started appearing in the first session of the game when the Chinese dominated
him in the first four frames to get an early lead of 4-0 at the end of the first session with the highest break of 99 points.
However, Carter did bounce back in the next session and tried to unsettle his opponent and pull level winning three frames. However, it was not enough from his side as Yupeng did not let him win another frame. The eighth frame proved to be the final frame
when the Chinese cueman clinched it to finish the game and book his place in the second round of the event.
While speaking to World Snooker, Carter said, “I didn't think the game went that well for me really. It's the same old story, I don't really enjoy the travelling to be honest so I've got to have a serious look at my schedule because the first two tournaments
for me, this and Wuxi, were a waste of time in terms of my results.”
The Captain added, “It's disappointing to come all this way to lose but I haven't put any practice in, I've been travelling non-stop and I haven't really played since the World Championship.”
Yupeng’s victory over an experienced potter like Carter is definitely one of the biggest upsets of the new season as Carter finished the previous season convincingly making his way into the final encounter of the 2012 World Snooker Championship against the
Rocket Ronnie O’Sullivan. Despite the fact that he lost the final encounter by the score line of 19-11 but still he was satisfied the way he finished the previous season.
