  1. A couple different types of capacitors in the auto sound area. Most common is a low signal blocking capacitor commonly called a "bass blocker". The attach to a SMALL speaker to keep the low bass notes from being sent to it and causing damage by trying to make the speaker produce notes it was never intended to do.

The next common type are much larger. Called Stiffening Capacitors. They attach to the 12V+ lead as close to the amp or distribution point as possible. It provides maximum power 14.4V to the amp to help during very low bass notes. A sure sign you need a Stiffening Capacitor is when playing music with lots of bass content, your  dash lights , headlight, accessories, etc dim with the music. -- If your old amp had a place to make a connection to one of these, its a nice feature but hardly anything you couldn't do your self with any amp and a few parts.

I would just scrap the Lanzar entirely and get a better quality amp more suits to your particular application.

  2. I think you should be able to put your Capacitor across the Power Input.Just hook + and - up correctly. What is the Capacitor rated at ? Maybe 1 Farad at 25 Volts DC ? I might be wrong, but I don't think so.Check out the rest of the Answers that come up.
