Caparros confident ahead of clash with leaders Valencia
Athletic Bilbao sit in ninth place in La Liga after five contests. This weekend they face their toughest match against leaders Valencia. Los Che have four wins and a tie
in their first five games and sit one point ahead of Villareal.
Bilbao coach Joaquin Caparros has been impressed with the play of Valencia so far. They have relied on several new players to perform after selling David Villa to Barcelona
and David Silva to Manchester City.
“Valencia is enjoying a great time,” Caparros said. “They have started wonderfully and they remind me of Sevilla from a few years ago, when they made a great team with players
that were not well known. But we must fight, be consistent and be confident in our chances of success.”
Two of the newest signings have been forwards Aritz Aduriz and Roberto Soldado. Both talented strikers arrived on the east coach of Spain this summer and have made quick
impressions. Aduriz has scored two league goals, and Soldado has scored one. Both players registered a goal in the Champions League group stage.
“They have two strikers in Aduriz and Soldado that will be given equal opportunity to play, and both of them make Valencia’s game more direct,” Capparros said. “But we are
here to compete and produce a good game.”
Bilbao are led by Fernando Llorente, who stole the starting role in the Spanish team from Fernando Torres during the World Cup.
Capparros is confident that his team has the strength on the field and on the bench to contend.
“This is a competition,” Capparros said. “In a season there are many games that change depending on the situation. We have a balanced squad, and are in a position to rotate
if necessary."
Valencia and Athletic face off on Saturday.
