Capcom announced JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure re-release – Video Games Update
Capcom announced at San Diego Comic Con 2012 that it will be re-releasing JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, the hit fighting game from 1998, in high definition for Xbox Live and Playstation Network.
It seems like this is a new trend for Capcom as every month the publisher reaches into its bag of old games everyone has forgotten about, throws on a fresh coat of HD graphics, adds some online multiplayer capabilities and re-releases it on Xbox 360 and
the Playstation 3.
In this case it also doesn’t hurt that Namco Bandai just recently announced JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Stars Battle Royale for the Playstation3 and Capcom wasted no time in announcing their re-release of the same franchise. A smart move by Capcom since
now the publisher will have to spend less on marketing the product as fans might get confused and buy Capcom’s HD re-release instead of the new Namco Bandai game which is due next year.
Another advantage to Capcom is that it will probably be releasing the HD remake of the game on August 22, 2012 where as Namco Bandai’s new JoJo title is likely to hit the stores next year. Capcom is probably going to use all the hype created from the new
game’s trailer to push its downloadable game.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is a fighting game based on a Japanese weekly Shonen Jump Manga which also got adapted into Anime later on. The original game by Capcom was released in 1998 for Arcades in Japan and after the overwhelming popularity it was brought
to consoles a year later.
There have been mixed reactions from gamers so far after the announcement of the HD remake. Most are pleased that one of the best fighters is being revamped and brought to the current generation consoles but many are upset at the price Capcom is charging
for such an old game.
The game is to be released as a download only title and will cost gamers around $19.99 on the Playstation network or 1600 Microsoft Points on the Xbox live. Most gamers would agree that $20 is a bit much when it comes to HD remakes as most publishers offer
re-release HD versions of their games for $10 to $15.
