By that the developer means that it has not ruled out releasing more 2D updates or High Definition remakes of games for the future, yet considers them tricky as well
Capcom are behind some of the most iconic video games and video game characters in both video games of yesterday as well as those of today. The Street Fighter and Resident Evil series are their two most popular games to date yet there are many more that have entertained generations of gamers.
The publisher/developer released a High-Definition remake of one of their classics by the name of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD. The game did rather well for itself both in terms of critical reception as well as financially, i.e. sales.
Christian Svensson, who works in the US division of Capcom, shared an interesting post on the company’s official forums where he said that although developing Super Street Fighter II was tricky, it did pay off and Capcom would be interested in more of the same in the future.
“Oh, man. I can’t overstate what a tricky project (Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix) was. I’m happy with the outcome (critically, community wise, sales wise) but it was a really hard tightrope to walk and some points in development were really scary (like when we threw away about 2,500 frames of animation in various stages of completion because we weren't happy with them and started again).”
It seems that coming from that response to a fans post about wanting Capcom to dish out another offering of a Street Fighter HD remix, that the developer is not ruling out any possibility of that happening, yet at the same time urging fans to be patient.
He also explained how the bar had been raised since the previous release and that the cost for such projects would make things difficult in terms of making them viable and feasible due to the fact that they could not accurately forecast the sales.
Having said that, Mr. Svensson conceded, “That said, we’ll see what the future holds. Creatively, I’d like to do more 2D stuff in the future like this.”
