Capcom optimistic of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City’s commercial success, Xperia Play for O2 announced
Capcom seems certain that the latest installment in the legendary Resident Evil series will be a mass hit, with a forecast of 2.5 million units expected to be sold in the financial year.
Unlike previous installments, Operation Raccoon City is under development by Slant Six, who are taking liberties with the dynamics and gameplay to deliver a different yet equally horrifying experience.
Slant Six are more famously known for being the team behind the SOCOM series which has a huge following on the PlayStation console and they will be bringing their expertise in squad based shooters to the Resident Evil series.
The plot revolves around a squad of Umbrella operatives who are sent to Raccoon City, the premise of the original T-Virus outbreak that turned the city into metropolis of the undead, to eradicate any and all evidence of their employer’s involvement in the
case, much like the Black Ops were sent in the cult classic, Half Life.
The squad will be facing off against the notorious BOWs, S.T.A.R.S officers and the standard zombies that the game is known for. While the games trailers show that the protagonist from the highly acclaimed Resident Evil 4, Leon Kennedy is expected to play
some sort of role in the game as well.
Bringing in slant six has been another move by Capcom to shake things up in the Resident Evil franchise, as they tweaked the formula for RE 5 as well, by setting the game during daylight and adding a co-op feature as well.
Capcom went on to forecast sales of its other games as well with a two million figure for the highly anticipated Street Fighter x Tekken and 1.5 million for Dragon’s Dogma.
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is scheduled for a PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 release in winter later this year.
Xperia PLAY aka PlayStation Phone to be supported by O2
Sony Ericsson’s worst kept secret, the Xperia PLAY is set to be available on another network, O2, by June. More affectionately known as the PlayStation Phone, the Xperia PLAY, had been marred by leaks and even a reported prototype theft before its release
in April.
According to official sources, the bugs that had previously hindered PLAY’s ability to be launched on the O2 network on its official release date have been sorted out and will launch the product by the summer.
O2 also announced that it will launch the exclusive white version of the phone along with the standard black version.
The phone has made a market for itself with over 60 titles like cult classic Syphon Filter, FIFA and Destruction Derby already available for download, with more on the way.
