The publisher of the Japanese fighting game equivalent of Marvel vs. Capcom has been suffering from a game breaking glitch and the developer is moving to resolve the issue before riots break out.
The last bit of the previous sentence was just there for dramatic effect yet a large number of gamers who bought themselves a copy of the latest mash-up, Street Fighter X Tekken, have found the game unplayable due to a glitch in the game.
A glitch is basically an irregularity in the gaming code that gamers usually exploit to their advantage, however, in this case the glitch itself causes the game to crash making it fun for no one.
The issue arises when two fighters use knife attacks, or attacks with knife-like projectiles, against fireball attacks. The result of which is the game’s mind being blown resulting in the game crashing. The issue came to light following the latest update of the game (1.03).
Capcom themselves highlighted the problem and even pointed out a few of the game’s characters that had each kind of attack in their arsenal. A statement read:
“Anytime knife-like projectiles (Ibuki, Cody, Rolento etc) collide with fireballs (Ryu, Chun Li, etc), the game will crash.”
However, one of the members of the game’s development team, Tomoaki Ayano, assured fans that they were working on a solution to the problem. He said, “The development team is currently examining the problem and planning to patch the game as quickly as possible.”
He went on to specify when gamers could expect to see the latest update released when he said, “The patch to fix the glitch should be released by mid June.”
In trademark Capcom fashion, Ayano went on to apologize for the issue and hoped that fans would understand that the developers working on resolving the issue.
“We truly apologize for this problem, and hope everyone will be patient until the patch is released.”
The sales of the game have not been as high as Capcom was expecting and the publisher believes they understand why and pointed out that the large number of fighting games on the market made it a very congested genre.
