Titans 192 v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Cape-Cobras-c776 132/0 - Cape Cobras trail by 60 runs with 10 wickets remaining in the 1st innings
At stumps on the opening day of the four-day match between Cape Cobras and Titans, the former trail by 60 runs without the loss of any wicket, at Newlands, Cape Town.
Cape Cobras’ JM Kemp was outstanding today as he snapped up five Titan batsmen to play a dominating role in restricting them to 192 runs by the end of their first innings.
Cape Cobras, who chose to field after winning the toss, struck early when with only a run on the board, Louw dismissed Titans’ skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HG-Kuhn-c1548 (1) who had opened the innings for his side.
Then with just 14 runs on the board, the batting side saw the demise of their second wicket on the departure of PJ Malan, who was given lbw off Philander after scoring only eight runs.
Middle-order batsman, JA Rudolph, was disappointing as he managed to hit only nine runs before losing his wicket to Kemp.
This was then the start of the very successful spell for Kemp, who obliterated the batting side by grabbing wickets at regular intervals, as just ten runs later, he struck again, dismissing M Mosehle for one.
Meanwhile, opener TM Bodibe was the next to find his way back to the pavilion as he was dismissed by Hendricks after jabbing 20 runs. By this time, the batting side had managed to pile 47 runs on the board and were in a critical situation.
D Wiese and RE http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 der Merwe then forged a solid partnership, which rattled the bowling side as the batsmen launched an unexpected offence.
Finally with 164 runs on the board, this batting pair played its last as Wiese was trapped in front of stumps by Kemp after playing a knock of 58 runs.
Later, the bowler also sent van der Merwe packing, after he had hammered a 61-run knock. With the two batsmen back in the pavilion the rest of the batting line-up was destroyed on 192.
Cape Cobras’ openers AG Puttick (60) and AJA Gray (68) then gave their side a perfect start by ending the day with 132 on the board.
