Cape Cobras 283/5 (50 ov) v Warriors 246/9 (50.0 ov) - http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Cape-Cobras-c776 won by 37 runs
On Friday, Cape Cobras secured a 37-run win against Warriors in their 50-over game played at Newlands, Cape Town in the ongoing Momentum One Day Cup.
Cape Cobras, who chose to bat first after winning the toss, got off to a 36-run start with openers RE Levi and AG Puttick beginning the proceedings.
Puttick was the first wicket to fall as he was dismissed by Birch after scoring only ten runs.
Before Cobras could be pinned down, Levi and S http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 Zyl forged an intimidating resistance as they turned the tables by dominating the bowlers.
This was a positive move by the batsmen as the bowlers were put under pressure while the fielders were also tested.
The duo played superbly and survived some close calls as they mounted a score of 135 on the board.
At one point, the two batsmen looked unplayable, leaving the bowlers on their mercy.
However, the phenomenal partnership was brought to an end by Gqamane, who had Levi caught by Smuts after the batsman had smacked 83 runs. Levi's innings included 13 boundaries off 94 deliveries as he bullied the bowlers.
A run later, wicketkeeper/batsman DJ Vilas was also picked up by Smuts for nil. The loss of these two quick wickets put considerable pressure on the Cobras, but Puttick and MY Vallie were not deterred as they hammered knocks of 86 and 58 to play an important role in leading their side to a nifty score of 283.
The Warriors had a perfect start to their run chase as openers JT Smuts and AG Prince got their side off to a blazing start of 93 runs.
Smuts was then the first to depart as he was given leg-before wicket against Gray after hammering a 50.
Number-three batsman, C Jonker, was then the next to hit the showers after he smacked seven runs. By this time, the Warriors had bolstered 121 runs on the scoreboard and were still looking strong in their run chase.
However, what transpired next will leave them guessing for a long while in this season as their run rate decreased to an alarming level, which ultimately cost them the match, as they scored 246 for nine by the end of their 50 overs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warriors-c861 as he hammered an inspirational knock of 66 runs.
