I'm getting married in October(2008) at a rustic Inn on the beach in Cape Cod MA. I'm having difficutly coming up with a theme. I love the beach theme but in October I'm not sure how to pull it off. The ceremony is outdoors and the reception indoors. Any suggestions for a theme, colors and centerpiece ideas?

  2. Isn't cape cod enough of a "theme"?

Keep it light and nautical.  Navy colors with nautical accent.  Think sailing club.

  3. cape cod is a BEAUTIFUL place to have your wedding! congratulations!! anywho, since it is october, i would stick to light colors, like blues and greens, since your on the beach, how about shell centerpieces? it could really tie in the whole beach theme! good luck!

    hope i helped!

  4. Clambake time !

  5. Poppy - how lovely.  I grew up on the Cape and my parents till live there, so I have to admit I'm very partial to your choice!  Why don't you try incorporating fall leaves and water?  Some floating foliage and acorns in water on the tables, just to start?  Or, just go with a fall theme and use sand in vases and whatnot to symbolize the calm, beach element of the Cape? The dunes still have grass on them in October, too - so maybe a clean theme of sand and green?  Best of luck!

  6. I think it can be done, use dark blues, greens and browns colors. Use lot of candles, or lanterns. use shells for place holders. your walk way can be bamboo poles with ribbon tied around them and they will blow in the breeze. Have your "flower girl" toss sea shells out of a basket with your colors. Have your "ring bear" carry rings in a large sea shell tied with bows in your color.

Just have table cloths in your deep colors and a vase  with sand, shells, sand dollars, starfish, sea glass inside with a pillar candle in it. Simple but so elegant looking.  If you need any more ideas email me. I just had a beach wedding.

Oh buy mini weights (the kind that go on fishing poles) paint them the color of your dress and attach them to the very bottom of your veil to keep it from flying all over in the breeze!

  7. As a life time resident of Massachusetts, I can tell you that the Cape is absolutely gorgeous! I assume you're aware that it's wicked chilly at the beach here in October and I assume you've planned for that, correct?

Hmm...I would suggest combining a beach theme with a fall theme. For the centerpiece, you could use something like sea shells with colorful fall leaves (fake of course). You could also use pumpkins and seashells. Or, you could fill the bottom of a tall vase with seashells and then have branches and fall colored flowers coming from the top.

For the colors I would go with ones like chocolate brown, green , red, yellow, ivory etc. But you could also go with pinks and blues and purples too if you wanted. I would just go with darker shades of these.

  8. It's going to be cold on the water in Mass. in October.  I think you need to move your ceremony indoors or at least keep it 7-8 minutes long.

  9. What does the Inn look like?  Use the colors/style already provided or you may end up with serious clash.

What kind of wedding are you having?  Formal?  Large bridal party?  What's your dress and bridesmaids dresses look like?  All those can help determine what you want to go with for centerpieces.  They'll need to fit the "vision" of the wedding.  What is "perfect" to you?

You can use either a nautical beach theme with colors like cadet blue and white.  You can go with country decor or french country.  Consider flowers like sunflowers, hydrangeas.  Classic beach ideas are pails and shells.  Salt water taffy.  But do you like those things or think they are cheesy?  You could easily use some and not the other as Cape Cod has an older, rustic, simplistic feel about the place.

Or you can go with fall theme.  New England has gorgeous fall colors.  Rust, crimson, burnt orange, sage green, olive green, mustard yellow, etc.  You can use those if they appeal to you and not worry about "beach" theme at all.

What colors appeal to you more?  You aren't limited by surroundings as much.

As for centerpieces, how big is the room?  What is your budget?  How are the tables arranged?  Do you have round smaller tables or really large rectangle?

I recommend cutting pictures out of magazines of what you find attractive.  More than likely you'll have a common theme throughout.  Do you like quirky odd centerpieces?  Does the room require tall centerpieces b/c it has so much height?  If it is a sit down dinner, you want to consider the ease of people talking to each other.  Either small centerpieces so they can look over it, or tall so they aren't blocked by it.
