Cape Express to make the most out of the second flat racing chance of the season in the Goodwood Stakes (Handicap)
The seven-year-old, Cape Express, supersedes the chances of winning the Class 2 Goodwood Stakes (Handicap) on Wednesday, 1st August at Goodwood over two miles and five furlongs. The £18,675 prize money has attracted twenty runners who are three-year-old and above.
The 7 to 1 entry has raced five times ever since the new season took off, four of them have been hurdles and the only flat race was at Chester in May. He has proved himself over hurdles and is equally dependable on flat too, given his present improved form.
Cape Cross’ bay gelding shot into the new season with a fourth position in the 32Red Novices’ Hurdle on 17th March, 2012 at Kempton over two miles. The race was won by, Right Step, while taking up the runner-up’s position was, Tweedledrum.
The seven-year-old bay gelding did not wait for long to post a victory and thus made the most out of the very next race. He won the Corinthian Surgical Supporting Rotary Eradication Maiden Hurdle on 15th May, 2012 at Southwell over two miles.
The Nicky Henderson trained won the race by the margin of 2 ¼ lengths and had Harvey’s Hope settling right behind as the runner-up.
The favourite entry of the race, Prompter, reserved the third position.
The third outing of the season turned out to be in a flat race on 26th May, 2012 in the Duval – Leroy Champagne Handicap at Chester over a mile and five and a half furlongs.
The race was won by, Star Commander, as the favourite entry, Cape Express, settled third behind the winner. He was ridden by jockey, Neil Callan, in the first flat race of the season.
The Irish bay gelding out of mare, Lilissa, then struck a back-to-back. He won the Freebets.Co.UK Free Bets Conditional Jockeys’ Novices’ Hurdle on 24th June, 2012 at Hereford over two miles and a furlong.
On 25th July, 2012, the four-year-old then took charge of the Pershore Plum Festival Night 31st July Novices’ Hurdle at Worcester over two miles.
He landed the race by the margin of ten lengths.
Cape Express will become the mount for Neil Callan and the two will take it off from the fifteenth gate.
