  1. I do not know if you received the same mail as I did, mine show a lot of photo's from The River Club? It is terrible, it really is and it is freezing cold in CT, I feel very sorry for those people.

  2. Floods are not due to the "incompetency by the forest division", its caused by RAIN

  3. Yes, I think that it is the problem.

The mountains, that is in this case, Table Mountain and Devils Peak, have to be monitored and maintained, so that there is enough vegetation to prevent excessive run-off of rain water.  Too much run-off of water causes erosion. The alien vegetation also has to be reduced, so that indigenous plants can establish themselves, so that they can slow down the run-off (the flowing of excess water) and this in turn helps prevent erosion.

When too much water runs off the mountain at once, then the rivers swell and overflow, eroding the riverbanks and the surrounding areas get flooded.

Roads have to be constructed so that the water can run off into the storm water drains.  The  storm water drains should be large enough to cope with a massive amount of rain in a heavy downpour, and at the same time the waste water from all households should also still be able to flow through unhindered.

Thus, we see that lack of maintenance of the vegetation on our mountain slopes by the Department Of Water Affairs and Forestry is directly to blame for the flash flooding that occurred in Cape Town recently.

  4. The pictures shows a very bad situation and I hope that relieve for the people is in sight. I will not blame everything on incompetency and view this one as a natural disaster that could not have been prevented by human intervention. If anything/anybody has to take blame, then the world is to blame because little is done to stop global warming.

  5. Don't worry. It's nice and sunny in CT today.

  6. I feel so sorry for them, it must be really scary seeing all that destruction, and there is nothing you can do about it
