Cape Town Test: Jacques Kallis powers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 to strength
South Africa is inching towards a decent first innings total in the third and final Test of the three-match series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 at the Newlands in Cape Town.
Resuming at the overnight score of 232-4, the hosts forged ahead through the ever-reliable Jacques Kallis and Ashwell Prince.
Left-handed Prince, who was the highest scorer for the Proteas in their dismal batting performance at Kingsmead in the second Test, scored 47 runs. He was sent packing by a charged up Sreesanth who produced a beauty that swung in sharply from outside the
off stump and clattered into Prince’s stumps.
His knock came off 100 balls and included 6 fours. The fiery Sreesanth had more joy coming his way as on the very next ball. He forced Mark Boucher to edge through to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahendra-Singh-Dhoni-c73820.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dale-c52110 Steyn tried his best to hang around with Kallis but could not do so. The fast bowler fended off a ball that reared off the good length and ballooned in the air off his bat handle. Cheteshwar Pujara completed the dismissal with an easy catch in the fourth
slip.
Kallis cruised towards another Test century. The all-rounder, who has been in sublime form, completed the 39th hundred of a truly outstanding Test career.
He has joined Ricky Ponting as the second highest century maker in the longest format of the game.
On the other hand, Sreesanth kept chipping away and captured his fifth scalp when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Morne-Morkel-c77722 edged an attempted drive through to Dhoni.
Morkel who was promoted in the order scored 8 runs off 11 balls. After his demise, spinner Paul Harris provided support to Kallis and the duo pushed the total past the 300-run mark.
Harris who looked uncomfortable against the steep bounce extracted by Sreesanth and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ishant-Sharma-c64566 eventually succumbed to Sharma. The lanky pacer forced him on the back foot from around the wicket and Harris guided the ball to leg slip where Pujara gobbled
another easy catch.
Harris hung around for 41 balls and scored 7 runs in a crucial 27-run partnership with Kallis.
The South Africans were 335-9 at lunch with Kallis batting on 140 runs. Lonwabo Tsotsobe is unbeaten with him on 3.
