The former AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 head coach has categorically denied being in contention for the position of the Italian national team head coach, stating that his priorities and objectives were different and the job did not interest him.
Capello was the manager of the English national team and has been without a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 consequently hired the
former Fulham manager, Roy Hodgson, for the vacant position as the England manager.
When quizzed about a possibility of a return as the Azzurri national team coach, the former Juventus head coach made his decision and views clear on the topic, and stated:
“I’ve said it before and I’ll repeat it - I’m not interested in becoming the Coach of the national team. And another thing, I’m at a certain age now.”
The 66-year-old further went on to state that he had faith in this Italian side, and considers them to be a strong contender for the finals, he praised their performance against the reigning European Champions in Gdansk, and went
on to mention:
“I always thought that Italy were stronger than other teams, because I’ve seen in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011.”
Italy exceeded expectations, given their injury concerns coming into the tournament. They had to deputise http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniele-De-Rossi-c10112 in the middle of defence in Andrea Barzagli’s absence. The Juventus defender was nursing a calf strain and
made his way back into the squad in the last match of the group stages.
There had been mixed opinions of the Italian performance in the group stages, and Capello added:
“Only for us, if there is such and such a result do they immediately write critical pieces that are irrelevant. This is a good national team who can play their part.”
Italy came in second in their group and will play England in the quarter finals of the European Championship.
