Question:

Capital a consideration in Casino?

Hi, assuming a russian roulette without 0 (which means there is no dealer adv). Does bringing inadequate capital give u a disadvantage in the Casino? For example, if you bring in $50 and bet $10 at a time, then if you lose 5 rounds, there is no chance to recoup your capital. However, if you have $1000, you will still have a high chance to recoup your capital. Does it mean that we need to bring in as much capital as possible even if we only want to bet $10 per game so as to prevent disadvantage?

  1. The disadvantage starts as soon as you sit down.  You're posing your question as if attrition equals profit.

A game such as roulette is all based on luck; absolutely no skill.  Therefore, chances are, the longer you sit there, the better chances you have of winning a spin.  But the winnings of that spin doesn't necessarily mean you'll recoup the money wagered on the losing spins prior to the win.

The bottom line is, understand that the odds are stacked against you and assume you'll leave with nothing.  Anything more is a bonus.

  2. In Russian Roulette, all you need is a revolver and a single bullet.  It's a much different game from the casino game Roulette.  You might want to keep that in mind, because you rarely end up dead in casino Roulette.

As for casino roulette, it is not actually the 0 or 00 that gives the house it's edge, it is the odds offered on the payout.

For example, you get paid 35-1 on a single number bet.  If the casino had no green numbers (0 and 00) they could simply reduce this to 33-1 and still have a house edge.

The zeros do create an additional advantage for the casino insofar as they get to keep all the bets when this number comes up, and it helps with the house edge on even money bets like red or black.

As to your question about capital, I do think you are at a disadvantage if you only take $10 to a casino.  It is easy to lose it quick and then you are done.  Of course it is also a mistake to think that just because you have more money with you, you'll have the opportunity to win back what you lost.  Because most casino games have a house edge, the longer you play the more likely you are to lose money.  So you should never play in an attempt to win back lost money.

The only exception to all this would be games where the casino doesn't care if you win or lose, such as poker.  They take a rake (or tournament buy in) from each game and if you win or lose, it doesn't matter to them.

But when you play against the house, in a random chance game like roulette, you are going to lose in the end.  The only hope is to get lucky in the short term.  But on that basis you might as well play slots.

  3. Check out the "Gambler's Ruin". It contains some tricky math, but it may be  helpful.

Even if the game is fair, the player with the largest bankroll will usually win. You have a bankroll counted in the thousands while the casino has hundreds of millions - see if you can guess who might win.
