Caponata confident to win Kilboy Estate Stakes (Group 3) (Fillies & Mares)
Following her two back-to-back victories during May-June 2012, the D. K. Weld trained bay filly, Caponata, looks to be quite confident to complete her maiden hat-trick by winning the Kilboy Estate Stakes (Group 3) (Fillies & Mares) here at Curragh racecourse
on Sunday, July 22.
For the high-profile Irish race, the three-year-old novice runner is the 5-4 best-priced candidate with the Paddy Power. For the sake of the prize money worth €39,000, she will have to compete against half a dozen rivals on the heavy track of 1 mile and
1 furlong.
The K. Abdulla owned fantastic filly has marvellously won both the races of her career so far. She staged a stunning debut on May 6, 2012 by claiming the ace title of the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden at Gowran park. That was
a tremendous performance indeed as the debutant defeated 10 strong competitors including the hot favourite one.
Thus, the daughter of Selkirk out of Daring Diva beautifully made herself felt in the eyes of the punters who granted her a favourite tag for the very next race that was the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Naas Oaks Trial (Listed Race) (Fillies),
held at Naas on June 27.
The Juddmonte Farms Inc bred runner elegantly came up to the expectations of the punters by winning this time again. Now, Caponata is going to run today’s race with the highest odds. She will run under her regular jockey Pat Smullen. It is expected that
the momentous sprinter will be able to complete her hat-trick convincingly.
However, she may have to face some resistance from Tannery who possesses an outstanding track record. The David Wachman trained bay filly superbly accomplished a classic conquest each in April, May and June 2012.
Earlier in her career, the Grange Stud bred runner had registered three consecutive runner-up ranks. In her only outing on a heavy ground, she finished 5th against 8 rivals. This does not augurs well for her today’s going, but the way she has
been performing for the last four months shows that she will give enough tough time to Caponata.
So a thrilling and awe-inspiring clash will be witnessed at Curragh. Good luck to all the contestants.
