Caponata set to shine in Irresistible Jewel Blandford Stakes (Group 2) (Fillies & Mares)
Caponata will be looking to outperform her rivals in the Irresistible Jewel Blandford Stakes (Group 2) (Fillies & Mares) at Curragh in Ireland on Sunday, September 9, 2012. She is quite young and does not have a lot of experience, but that does not mean
that she is any less competitive than her opponents and will be full of confidence.
A total of eight entries have been listed for the all important event, which will start at 15:50 GMT tomorrow. All of them have been trained very well and they will be eying a strong show in order to win a cash prize of €65,000 in the end.
However, only the best of the lot will manage to grab that winning cash prize from the 1 mile 2 furlong race. The conditions have been described as yielding at Curragh, but that could change before the start of action tomorrow. The weather has been somewhat
unpredictable in Ireland these days, thus anything can happen in one day’s time.
Looking at the current situation, Caponata appears to be in a great shape. She will definitely get the attention of the punters, despite the fact that there are some relatively more experienced runners up against her in the race.
The three-year-old filly made her debut in May this year and was not rated as the favourite to succeed back then. Despite that, she had a solid chance of shining, as the track was affected by rain. Her main rivals struggled in such conditions, allowing her
to take the top spot comfortably in the end.
After winning her maiden race by a comfortable margin of five and a half lengths, the D. K. Weld’s trainee was given the best odds for victory next time around. The conditions were different compared to her first outing, but she showed that it did not matter
to her whether it rained or not. She stamped her authority once again, winning easily once again.
However, the American filly was unable to repeat such a show in her most recent outing and had to settle for the runner up position in the end. She will be looking to get back to the winning ways under jockey, Pat Smullen, who has been partnering her since
the start of her career.
