Cappie Pondexter, Kia Vaughn, Liz Cambage: Top WNBA players from June 23 games – Part 1
Two games took place in the Women National Basketball Association (WNBA) on Thursday, June 23, 2011.
At BOK Center, the New York Liberty crushed Tulsa Shock 94-82 to snap their four-game losing streak. New York took a 46-32 lead at halftime and never trailed in the second half of the game. Five players scored in double figures
for Liberty with two of them having double-doubles.
Kia Vaughn
Kia Vaughn knocked the opposition down with a season-high 24 points and 12 rebounds in less than 33 minutes. The 24-year-old centre half of her points in the first half of the game and was unbeatable from the field, shooting 12
for 14 from the field.
Cappie Pondexter
Cappie Pondexter also had a brilliant double-double for Liberty as she landed 23 points and dished a game best 10 assists for New York. Pondexter went 8 for 17 from the field and 5 for 10 from three-point range.
Plenette Pierson
Plenette Pierson added 14 points, four rebounds and two blocks in Liberty’s win. The 29-year-old forward, who won the first ever Sixth Woman of the Year Award last season, ended the game on 7 for 10 shooting from the field.
Liz Cambage
Centre Liz Cambage was prolific for Tulsa on the night. The 19-year-old rookie came off the bench with a team-high 22 points, four rebounds, two steals and two blocks for Tulsa, who lost their second consecutive game. The Australian
player was 6 for 6 from free throw line and 8 for 9 from the field.
Kayla Pedersen
Rookie Kayla Pedersen scored 18 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished out three assists in 34 minutes of play. The 6-foot-4 forward finished with a 5 of 8 effort from the field and 6 for 6 from free throw line. The player also
pinned two three-pointers and blocked two shots on the night.
Ivory Latta
Veteran guard Ivory Latta punctuated 13 points, dished out seven assists and grabbed two rebounds. The guard also notched two 3-pointers in the loss.
Essence Carson
Essence Carson did all she could for Tulsa and scored 12 points to go along with four rebounds and four assists. The player also made a steal and a block, playing more than 24 minutes.
