Cappie Pondexter
This is second time this season Pondexter has received the player of the week award and 12th time in her six seasons - fourth most in WNBA history. It was an interesting week for Pondexter, to say the least. During the period,
Pondexter led Liberty to a 2-0 record.
In the period under the scanner, Pondexter scored at an average of 19 points – second in the East - and dished out 5.5 assists per game. The shooting guard, who is known for her quick crossovers, tied for first position in free-throw
percentage. She finished the week, third in the East with 3.50 steals per game and shooting from the long range was 5 for 8 during that period.
Pondexter’s week began with a game-high 20 points, season-high nine rebounds, seven assists and four steals in a 76-73 win over the San Antonio Silver Stars. Cappie shot 8 for 15 from the floor including 4 for 5 from three-point
range that night as Liberty took down the Silver Star twice in a row.
Two days later at Prudential Center, she punctuated a team-high 18 points, dished out four assists and stole the ball three times in the Liberty’s 80-73 victory over Chicago Sky. She hit 5 for 8 from the floor and a perfect 7 for
7 from the line in that game.
Sue Bird
After Swin cash took the honours last time, Bird’s nomination marked the second straight week a Seattle player has won the player of the week award. For Bird, it was the fourth weekly award in her eight-season career.
Sue Bird averaged league’s second best 6.5 assists per game as Seattle went 1-1 in the week. Bird finished the week with an average of 19 points per game. She was second in both field goal percentage (14 for 20) and three-pointers
(7 for 9) in the Western Conference.
In the contest against the league-best Indiana Fever on July 5, the Storm guard scooped out a game-high 21 points, including 5-of-6 treys and dished out five assists. Then in a game against the Los Angeles Sparks, she pounded 17
