My sister and I will be travelling to Europe in May/June and will be spending 4 days in Rome. We would like to spend one of those days on the island of Capri. I already have train and ferry information but I am wondering if anyone knows of a company that does tour around the island of capri? I have found some tour but they are all from Rome and are very expensive. We just want someone to show us around parts of the island and visit the Blue Grotto

  3. First, get their EARLY!!! you don't want to waste one second of your time.

I spent my childhood growing up on Capri! It is beautiful and the Blue Grotto  (Grotta Azurra) is amazing. When you get off of the ferry you can do one of two things. As you walk off, you will see small shacks by the boat that are tour guide operated boat tours. They provide wonderful tours of the entire island and usuall have some great info provided by your guide. Just note that the boats are small and open, so bring the sunscreen! Some tours let you jump in the water and go swimming (not in the grotto though) keep that in mind as well. Also, if it is a windy or choppy day, sometimes you arrive to the grotto (always by boat) and the waves are too big to get in. You literally have to lie down in the canoe to make it through the small hole that marks the opening of the grotto and you want to make sure the weather will allow you to do it.

While you are in Capri, there are so many other beautiful places to go. Take a left at the end of the marina and go to the Red Trolley that takes you up the island into Capri. The Piazza is gorgeous and if you go up the Piazzasteps you will find yourself at a beutiful church  that is worthy of pictures! Take a walk down one of the many small roads behind the church and you will arive at Quisisanna, where the most beautiful hotels are and lots of shopping (unfortunatly the mom and pop stores are gone and it is mostly highend.)

Their is a beautiful public Garden called Park Augusto which has amazing views of Mt Vesuvious and the Faraglioni (the rock formation in the water) and flowers.

I am not sure which boat tour company is the best. When you walk off of the ferry along the marina, go straight right into a tourist shop that sells the ferry tickets. This is my grand uncle's (Zio Mario) store. They all speak english very well and you can ask them for an honest opinion on which boat tour providor is the best! They had taken me on one a few years ago and it was awesome. They can also give you the best name of tour providors for a walking tour of the island. Make sure you bring comfortable shoes!

  4. OK here is the deal.  After you have taken the ferry from Serrento you will arrive in capri.  As you are walking past all the little docks you will see two or three companies to the left hand side of you before leaving the dock area that offer tours.  There is one (i dont remember the name) but it is a little red wood structure that offers a tour.  I went with them it was really cool and the guy was so funny.  I will tell you this, the company that takes you to the blue grotto will charge one fare to get you there. Then once you are there you have to pay to get into the blue grotto. Then you will get into another little boat that will take you inside.  Althought they say tipping the guy that takes you into the grotto is not necessary, most people do.  i would suggest going about mid afternoon about 1 or 2 when the sun is shine right into the grotto.  if you need help with where things are or directions i can help.
