  1. Short answer:

No capsule hotels in USA, try shelters !

    Capsule hotels :

"Capsule Hotels are used primarily by young professional men, many of whom like to stay up late, drinking sake and gambling on a pinball-like game called pachinko, and are unable to catch the last trains out to the suburbs. There are dozens of such hotels throughout Japan, most clustered near major train stations."

In USA you will not find such hotels because capsule hotels were made because Japan is expensive and small and crowded and they wanted to fit a hotel near a station, space is limited, even at some big hotels and after paying good amount of money the size of the room is very little compared to other places, so capsule hotels ended up cheap and Japanese just wanted a place to sleep for one night or more and beside they already have a home so they save some money and use a capsule hotel .

  2. If you want to see an "environment for poorer people," then America is a better place to see it than Japan.  Go to Washington DC, Baltimore, Chicago, etc. and you can see violent crime and homeless on every street corner; Japan is extremely safe and clean by comparison.  Japan is the 2nd richest country in the world and has much less poverty and homelessness than America, and virtually no gangs, drugs, etc..  Capsule hotels are for rich Japanese businessmen.

  3. I agree w what others have said, however--I TRIED to stay at a capsule hotel in Japan and I just couldn't do it. I thought it would be "cool" and an adventure. . .but in fact I could not go through with it. This was just one capsule hotel, you understand. BUT--in the lobby it was rather rundown, it felt to me like a flophouse. . .it was just some old men sitting around in bathrobes watching a little b&w tv. Then upstairs everyone was supposed to take turns in the bath, which was more rundown than the shared baths I'd seen in other J hotels. And the capsule itself. . .ugh I was too afraid to climb in, I felt claustrophobia setting in. . .so I had to say bye to my friends who were staying there and find a room elsewhere (and what I ended up paying was basically the same. . .and the room was about 300% better.) This was in Osaka.

Anyway, take your kids to a homeless shelter in the US if you want to see poor people. Or go hang around the bus station.

  4. umm..environment of 'poorer' people?  those capsule condos in Japan are for those wealthy enough to afford, that dont want that LONG commute home and decide to stay near work....

and im fairly sure that we dont have those here.

  5. Your recognition about significance of capsule hotel in Japan  is poorer than ordinary people has I think.

Consider American vast national field compared to Japan well. There is no Capitalism which may accommodate capsule for demand what American guest does on stay.
