Captain Chris’ form fading away with time
Captain Chris’ future in Grade 1 & 2 events does not seem bright, as he has been unable to make any impression this year. He was certainly one of the best in the business during his peak days, but things do not seem to be working out well for him nowadays.
He has been having some stamina issues in recent times and his trainer, Philip Hobbs realises that fact. Due to this, he pulled his runner out of one competition, saying, “We've decided not to run Captain Chris on Saturday. We're not sure about his stamina
and I think it would be unfair to ask him to go three miles on ground that is going to be very soft indeed.”
Overall, the seasoned runner has participated in a total of 15 races, winning six of them. His strike rate is a pretty decent one and he has produced some other solid performances throughout his career.
The eight-year-old gelding has managed to finish as a runner up on four occasions whereas secured the third space once, which shows that he has the ability to fight for the top-three positions with consistency.
The Irish stallion debuted in February 2010 and was unable to deliver a strong result back then. He was not rated as the favourite to succeed and had to settle for fourth place in the end.
However, the skilful runner won three back-to-back events afterwards, which earned him a name very quickly. He was soon considered to be one of the most potent forces in the sport and began competing at the highest level.
His first major victory came in the Racing Post Chase, which was a Grade 2 contest. He was rated as the favourite to succeed in it and did not disappoint his fans, finishing at the top by a clear margin of 13 lengths.
King´s Theatre’s son managed to make his team proud at Cheltenham and Punchestown, winning a couple of Grade 1 races at these venues. This was the highlight of his career, but his form has dipped since then.
Mrs Diana L. Whateley’s owned horse has participated in just a couple of competitions this year, but his performances in them were below par. Age is not on his side and it seems that he would not be able to be fit enough to peak again.
