Captain Chris tipped as favourite for the Argento Chase
Captain Chris will be the favourite for the Argento Chase at Cheltenham on Saturday, January 28, 2012. He was not tipped to win before, Grands Crus, was ruled out of the chase.
Philip Hobbs, trainer of Captain Chris, will be expecting his horse to prevail in the Saturday’s chase. The eight-year-old has done really well in such events, winning three out of the eight he took part in.
Other than his three victories, he also ended up as the runner up in the same number of races whereas finished third once. There was only one occasion where he failed to end up in the top three.
Considering the performances of, Captain Chris, in chase races, he will definitely be the favourite of the bookmakers, and if Grands Crus had taken part in the event, things would have been extremely competitive.
Captain Chris is not the only horse tipped for victory at Cheltenham, as the bookmakers believe, Diamond Harry, might also fight for the top spot. He has entered five chase races until now, winning three of them.
Veteran horse, Little Josh, is also set to take part in the first race of the season. He had suffered an injury, and was out of action for quite some time. However, his trainer, Nigel Twiston-Davies, expects him to make a solid impression in the chase.
According to Twiston-Davies, “Obviously he's (Little Josh) that little bit older now but he goes well fresh. The good ground at Cheltenham will be no problem at all and I don't think three miles one furlong will be a problem - he ran in the RSA Chase a
few years ago, although he didn't win, he got the trip.”
He further went onto say, “If he runs well, we will be looking at all the good races in the spring, and he will be given a Grand National entry.”
The 10-year-old horse has had some decent outings in chase events, but age is not on his side now. He has won such races four times out of the ten he took part in. He also finished as the runner up on one occasion, and even a top three finish on Saturday
will be quite satisfying for his trainer.
