Captain Davis Love III has high plans for the upcoming Ryder Cup and the US Team
The US Team captain, Davis Love III is learning from the past captains, focusing and screening all the players to select the best US Team ever for the 2012 Ryder Cup.
The Ryder Cup is all over the news. The mega European Tour event will be staged from September 25 to 30, at the sensational venue of Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Illinois.
All the players are keeping this tournament in their minds and doing their best in order to be selected for the field. Similarly, the captain is also spending most of his time in planning how to reap the best results for the near future.
"Guys that I don't know, I want to get to know Kyle Stanley," Love said. "I want to get know these guys".
The format for the team selection is simple and similar to the 2010 edition. Eight top-ranked players on the US team standings will be qualified to play the thrilling four-day tournament against the European team.
Currently, the eight top players include Bubba Watson, Phil Mickelson, Hunter Mahan, Keegan Bradley, Tiger Woods, Brandt Snedeker, Bill Haas and Steve Stricker.
For the remaining four spots, the captain has been given the authority and he will pick players he thinks are capable enough for the tournament. All the players selected must belong to the US.
Love's main focus is to fill these four spots with competent and amazing golfers.
Love is watching different PGA and European Tour events in order to select top professionals and complete the roster before the deadline. He is screening the players closely, and will declare the four names in September, 2012.
"We were bonding already. Tom (Lehman) was getting to know those guys," Love said.
"I want Phil (Mickelson) to spend a little time with Kyle Stanley so when you go to the Ryder Cup, they know each other. So if you have to put them together, they're not feeling each other out".
The event was established in 1927 and this year, it will be the 39th edition of the Ryder Cup. Love knows that the results are amazing. According to the stats, the US had its ascendency over Europe until 1983.
However, after the 1983 season, Europeans played well and ended the US Team's winning streak. The European Team recorded several victories and is also a defending champion.
Dave's aims are high this year, as he wants to regain the US Team's momentum. For this, he is doing his best to review the odds and learning thoroughly from experiences of the past captains.
