Captain Joy looking solid in Crowne Plaza Race & Stay Package Handicap at Dundalk
There are many with a chance at Dundalk, but Captain Joy, who has already tasted success over seven furlongs, is making the best appeal in Friday’s Crowne Plaza Race & Stay Package Handicap.
The 3-year-old has plenty going for him. He has been performing pretty consistently since the outset of this season. On his seasonal return at Curragh, the Tracey Collins-trained impressed everyone by seizing the runner-up place.
He ran another fantastic run at Naas in August, when sharing the podium in the Naas Apprentice Handicap. The son of Dark Angel continued the fine work to ensure another runner-up spot here in September.
In the hands of Michael Hussey, he did nothing wrong, but remained unlucky. Despite a wonderful effort, the 7-1 chance missed the crown by one and a half lengths in the Crowne Plaza Hotel Dundalk Handicap.
He knows this track and distance very well, and can make a huge impact in this contest. Owned by Herb M. Stanley, the gelding is due to face 13 horses in today’s clash. The plan is to start the proceedings at 19:30 GMT. A cash prize of €8,970 is reserved
for the successful horse.
Spirituality seems to have a few things in favour. The 3-year-old faced a few unlucky defeats at the start of this season, but finally got off the mark here earlier this month. After a very close contest, the Thomas Carmody-trained managed to beat Edge Of
Sanity by one and a half lengths.
Another talented horse who can fancy some chances is Free Spin. M. Halford’s charge took a narrow win here in August, but lost the momentum thereafter. On his latest start, the son of Iffraaj was quite terrible, as he finished 11th on the chart.
Hot Bed is certainly a player, but unproven at the distance. Quote Of The Day can be given a chance, as there is no reason why he should not handle the going.
Without a doubt, there are several interesting contestants in the pack. But the preference should be given to Captain Joy, whose consistency is good enough to trust him. We wish the best of luck to all the horses.
