Captain Obvious and Dux Scholar expected to battle out in the desert heat
The popularity of horse-racing has spread to the U.A.E as race fans anxiously await the range Rover Evoque Trophy Handicap at Meydan’s turf course which offers a purse of £67,742. This race will cover a distance of 7 furlongs, with 16 runners competing.
The line-up for this race consists of Captain Obvious, Dux Scholar, Delegator, Tamaathul, Jaasoos, Spectacle Du Mars, Barbecue Eddie, Dohasa, Ibn Battuta, Silver Ocean, Five Cents, The Comedian, Colonial, Kavango, Redemptor, Rerouted, Hujaylea, Rock
Jock, Sir Reginald, and Zabarajad.
Captain Obvious is a tough competitor, and he is expected to set the pace of the race early on. His first race of the year was a success, as he secured the 1st place at Al Naboodah Construction Group in Meydan, held on 20 January,
2012. He finished 4th on 3rd February 2012, at Meydan in the Group 3 Al Shindagha Sprint Sponsored by Gulf News.
Captain Obvious’s performances last year were outstanding. He blazed through the Kranji Stakes at Kranji on 28th October, 2011. The second win was at the same course on 11th December, 2011.

The odds in this race are stacking up in his favour, and large bets are being placed on him.

Dux Scholar is also a tough competitor, and may give Captain Obvious a run for his money. He was the runner-up thrice in a row in 2011. He came second to, Prince Seigfried, at Windsor in the Totepool Winter Hill Staked, held on 27thAugust,
2011.
Dux Scholar’s status as a runner-up continued as he was defeated by, Bubble Chic, on 8th October, 2011 in the Darley Stakes held at Newmarket. He was a favourite in this race and his defeat caused an upset among the punters
and the spectators.
Jaasoos has also been in good shape and maintained his consistency throughout last year. He was runner-up in the Emirates Holidays Handicap which was held on 10th November 2011. He finished second to Alazeyab.
Jaasoos also finished second in the National Cup Sponsored by Adec held at the Abu Dhabi turf on 27th November, 2011.
His 1st place victory came on 18th December, 2011 in the HH The President Cup held at Abu Dhabi’s turf course. He defeated, Escape Route, and claimed the much deserved first position.
The start to 2012 has not been spectacular for the 8-year-old chestnut gelding, as he finished 4th in the Jebel Ali Mile Listed Race on 27th January.
The race is expected to be led by, Captain Obvious and Dux Scholar, but their chances of winning are more or less the same.  Jaasoos is predicted to finish in third place.
