Hi

I need to capture video on my macbook from a Panasonic DV camera. But i cannot find any software for capturing in with USB cable not firewire. I need to do it for school so im not going to fork out on a firewire cable.

Does anybody know where i can get FREE software for capturing video from a DV camera on a Mac? Plz.

Thanks.

  1. iMovie will not recognize video (DV) coming over the USB port. For that matter, MovieMaker (Windows) won't, either anymore. Who owns the camera? Maybe they'll buy it the cable.

    Firewire cables are cheap.

  2. DV can't be transmitted through USB cables. At least not that I know of. Still images can be transferred but for DV you need FireWire.

  3. Even Mac needs a firewire connectio for downloading video, are you sure your Mac doesn't have a firewire port, seems my sister's Mac has one.

Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder.
