Capture quality comparisons on different editing software?

Question

I finally acquired a Sony Digital 8 camcorder so I can finally get all of my old home videos onto my hard drive, but for instance, when I use Sonic DVD (or Movie Maker for that matter) to capture video, am I getting the same quality upload as I would if I was using some fancy shmancy software like Sony Vegas? I'm aware that Vegas does wonders better in editing, but just for CAPTURING, does it matter what I'm using?

It doesn't matter - all you're doing is transferring a string of 1s and 0s from one medium to another.
