Question:

Car A/C blows hot air, but system is charged?

I just bought a 99 Dodge Intrepid. It blows hot air. I figured, no problem, i'll just get a can or two of 134a and fill it up like I've done many other cars in the past. The a/c compressor comes on by the way. I was able to get a can of freon in there but it wont accept another can. I think my guage on this cheap thing I got from last year is broke. It says 110 psi which is way overcharged. I hooked it up to my other car which I know for a fact is properly charged. The guage on that read 100 psi , so I guess the guage is messed up. But regardless since I can't get any more freon in there, I have to assume its full.

Is there anything else that might cause it to blow hot air even though the compressor is kicking on?

  1. Do the proper thing - -  change the pressure gauge and you will be sure whether it is already full or not.  Are you doing the correct way of putting the 134a in?  Do you have the proper equipment for this?  Have you check if the "heater" is not defectively on?  Well, you have to do it one step at a time in a process of eliminating potential troubles.  Good luck.

However, there is one sure way of correcting it but  will cost you  - - bring your car to a reliable auto shop with aircon technician.

  2. could be over charged stoppin the freon from circulating

  3. p**p

  4. You may need a new air compressor.  Even though it blows it may still be bad

  5. The compressor can still be bad even though it turns on. over filling will make it blow hot air. dirty air vents. need to go get a cheap service manual from parts store. around $15. give more detail on how to fill and service the air on your car.

  6. There could be a blockage in the ac system.  Most probable areas are the expansion valve or the receiver/drier.  Recommend that both be replaced.  Compressor can be running but if there is no flow due to blockage it does not matter.  Should take care to professional, but you can check and see if there is cooling going on by touching the system at various points.
