I recently got in a car accident. The reason: I had a Doctors appointment and i was going to the doctor; it was raining a lot and i saw the person stop and i pressed my break but my car could not stop (too slippery) . I collided with a 2005 Chevrolet Impala and there is minor damage to the rear bumper (Scratches, and it slightly shifted). I did not call my insurance because i was afraid that my insurance will go up. but now they call me and the are telling me to pay $3200 to replace the rear bumper and "Minor damages to the Under side" apparently my car slid underneath the car and made small damage to the car rear bumper Brackets. I never looked underneath their car but the rear bumper only had Scratches( no dents) so i looked on the internet to see i it is a reasonable price but all i found was a rear bumpers for that car would cost about $500.

Should i pay $3200 or should i tell them to call the insurance?

because i can't pay $3200

  1. If you can't pay $3200 you don't really have a choice but to go through insurance.

  2. The can go where ever they want to fix it but have to have quotes from 3 places...... If you think they are being idiots about it and they have your insurance info just leave it and make them file/make a claim with your insurance...perfectly legal just makes them do all the work

  3. call your insurance company. sounds like there might have been some uni-body/frame damage in addition to the rear bumper being scratched.  the typical bumper repair runs around $500. If you turn it to your insurance you don't have to pay a deductible to get the other persons car fixed. You will have to pay a deductible to get your car fixed.

  4. Didn't you exchange IDs and insurance info> Seems that there son has given them a nice quote>For there claim contact your insurance comp & let them handle it>Seems they might have inflated there quote but might not of> You didn't say the damage to your car must be great so have the ins involved>

  5. call insurance, they will require an estimate be done at one of the shops they approve of, Then you wont have to pay 3200, just your deductible, which may be around 500 bucks....right?

  6. That is a typical price to repair a bumper.  Call your insurance agent; that's why you pay them.

  7. You are definitely at fault here, you were going too fast for conditions and were unable to keep control of your vehicle and stop, so it's up to you to make the person you damaged whole.

Call your insurance, report it to them, and get a claim number.  Then call back the person you hit, give them the name and phone number of your agent, and the claim number, and let them handle it.  They will investigate and pay the damages you caused.
