Question:

Car Audio Problems?

I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limitied with Infinity Gold component speakers.

I recently sold my 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee and replaced the head unit in the 2001 Jeep with the one in the 99 Jeep.

I've had the head unit for over a year, its a Pioneer with the whole built in Ipod features.

Now when I'm listening to my stereo if it is a song that the bass is gonna hit really hard, the moment the bass hits... every speaker in my car cuts out for a half of a second. I'm not completely sure of why it would do this, someone told me that I could either have a fuse blown or maybe the speakers are going into protective mode.

If it has to do with amplified power, I have 2 kickers and a kicker amp that I'm putting in there this week. I would just like to figure out the problem before I put those in there.

Any help would be great! thanks!

  1. Basically, what's happening is the subs are using all the power of the entire system and the other ones lose power. You either need 1) a more powerful amp/speaker combo 2) better wires.

  2. Your Jeep's Infinity Gold system includes a factory amplifier, located under a rear seat.  It sounds like this amplifier may have a problem.  It's possible that there's an issue with the amp's ground or power wiring.  In this case, the extra current required by the amplifier might cause the voltage to drop so low that the amp can't keep playing.

If I was troubleshooting your vehicle, I'd start by using a multimeter to test the voltage level on the power wiring at the amp.

It's also possible that there's a problem with the amplifier itself.

You can bypass the factory amp, but if you do, you'll probably want to replace your speakers with after-market upgrades.

  3. Indianguy is close, and actually got it. You need to upgrade the amp.
