Car Audio Subwoofer Setup?

My friend has pretty crappy sub setup right now and He wants me to build him a custom sub enclosure for him. I was wondering what setup would be the best for a basic car audio setup.

He has 2 12" 300w sub and one 10" 400w sub. he has a large enough amp for them so i'm not worrying about that. I'm choosing between

1) Isobaric Loading the 12" subs with a port and sealing the 10"

2)Sealing one 12" Porting the other and sealing the 4th order bandpass the 10"

2)or some different such as porting everything or sealing everything.

  1. port the 12's and scrap the 10

the 10 will eat up power that can be had by the 12's...and will give you more room to build a nice larger ported box for the 12's

  2. i will recommend you to ask him what kind of music he listen to .

ported boxes will any day go lower but sealed will sound accurate compared to ported - and i am sure you are familiar with it.

its better not to mix subs of different sizes - just use the two 12" and leave the 10" or sell it.

the decision should be taken by your friend that he likes the sound of sealed or ported...and theres no hard and fast rule to use all the subs , its just to make them musical and blend in with the front stage if any.

so basic car audio setup means nothing - only one sub is enough for basic car setup or 20 subs is less for some.

good luck with the custom job - but lest the decision to your friend as he will listen to them in the end
