Question:

Car Battery Light On? ?

Hi,

I was driving last night and the battery light indicator in the dash suddenly went on. Arrived at the destination 10 minutes later. After 3 hours, went home and on the way, I noticed that the dash lights, headlights, airconditioner were all very weak. I turned them all off and got home 25 mins later. I researched on the net and it seems like an alternator problem. I tried to start the car today and it started with one click. The indicator light was still on. i checked under the hood and the belt of the alternator was ok and seemed to be working well. The third time i tried to start it, there was just a clicking sound and would not start. Is the problem the alternator or could it be something else like the battery? Thanks for any replies. Btw, battery is 14 months old

  1. either you battery has **** itself mate, or your alternator not charging it anymore, best way to check is replace the battery and if she drains that one, you should invest in a newy.

depending on what you drive, just go to the wreckers and pick up a second hand one.

    Somewhere to start.

    Hope this helps

    Good luck

  2. Definitely a faulty alternator.  Your battery is fine.  Get it to an auto electrician, and have it fixed.  If your battery is low, charge it up before you take it in, or you may not make it.  I've had several problems with car alternators over the years, so I've seen it before.  By the way, if the car is a  Toyota, get the mechanic to come to you.  The engine computer in a Toyota will shut the engine down if the battery voltage drops below a certain point.

  3. Get a mechanic to figure out what is wrong.

But it probably is the alternator.

  4. sounds like the alternator is not charging the battery

  5. Try disconnecting your battery and then connect it again.  Sometimes that'll make the light go away...
