So is there any particular reason why both the Mercedes factory and the Porsche's factory is in Stuttgart? What are they like? I would especially like details on what the Mercedes factory is, and what it is like.

  1. Gottlieb Daimler was born 1834 in a town near Stuttgart, in 1887 he bought a shop in Cannstatt, then also a town near Stuttgart, and finally founded the Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (Daimler motor company) in 1890.

Ferdinand Porsche was a successfull engineer at Daimler Austria, a subsidary of the Daimler motor company, Germany. He then moved on to Daimler in Stuttgart, becoming a member of the board, but was fired in 1928. In 1930 he opened his own engineering company right where he was: in Stuttgart.

Daimler's production site in Untertürkheim, yet another suburb of Stuttgart, is a car factory like any other. There's a photo at http://www.daimler.com/Projects/c2c/chan...

You can visit the museum, see http://www.mercedes-benz-classic.com/con... .

Note that the Mercedes group of Daimler has a five main factories in Germany.

  2. The reason Mercedes is near Stuttgart is that Gottlieb Daimler lived in the near:

you also could visit the museum:

  3. What else can I add? Some Bozo is right.

Both, Mercedes and Porsche have museums which are very interesting and are worth a visit.

The Mercedes museum is located in Bad Cannstatt, a suburb of Stuttgart in the eastern area close to the river Neckar.

Porsche is located in Zuffenhausen, a suburb in the north western area.

Both museums are easy to find by public transport.

Edit: The car engine had been invented by Gottlieb Daimler and Carl Benz independently in 2 different places at about the same time.

I don't understand why I got thumb down for true facts. Seems like some people do it for fun without knowing why...
