Ok, so i'm 17, provisonal driver.

Is it true that if i get car insurance now, then pass my test, my insurance will go up, and theres jo way i can tell how much it will go up by?

For example if i get provisonal insurance for £700 then pass my test and it goes up to £3000 I will have to pay it with no otehr options?!

If this is true, what car insurance companies will not do this?

  1. For auto insurance the best way to get a good rate is do a rate comparison on car policies. Make sure that you pick similar options with the same limits, auto make, location, etc so that all things are a good comparison.

What I usually recommend is an online comparison quote at http://www.InsureAutoNow.info since they have top name insurers and will give multiple quotes on car insurance polices.

  2. YOu are not the only one,I have ever met the similiar problem before.I have good experience here though.http://carinsurance.expertsupport.info/a...

  3. I've never heard of provisional insurance, and I can't see any reason why the cost would go up after you pass your test.

  4. Where have you got this from? I always understood that provisional drivers had a premium 'loading' i.e. an extra percentage added. Insurers are the only people to talk to about this. I would be amazed if your premiums increased!  Try CIS if you get problems. They are upfront and good to talk to.

  5. Ring your insurer & ask - I think you'll find that it should come down, but it's best to check with them directly.

  6. That is possibly true but sounds odd, Was that provisional quote for a Year? it may be because you are only allowed to drive on a learner license with an adult, and maybe they think thats safer, I dont really know but I can tell you that £3000 a year is steep who did you get that quote with? I drove a 2l TD Nissan when i had first passed and my quote was only £2000... only lol.

  7. If my memory serves me well, this is correct, as my wife had the same situation when she passed her test.

When we questioned the insurance company, we were advised that as a provisional or learner driver, you should be accompanied by a driver who has a full licence., therefore being able to give advice on different situations that my arise.

However, as a newly qualified driver, you are entitled to drive unaccompained, but still lack the experience of someone who has been driving for a period of time. A good example is the fact that as a full licence holder, you are allowed to drive on  a motorway even though you would not have driven on one as a learner, therefore putting you in unfamilair terrioty and surroundings.

One option is to go on a pass plus course thats gives you a greater amount of driving experience. This will show the inmsurance company that you have taken further instruction after passing you inital test.

The only way to find out by how much your insurance will rise is to give them a call and discuss it with them.
