Car Insurance Question...?

I will try to make it short and sweet: I have State Farm Car Insurance. My husband and i paid for 6 months ahead of time in May. My husband got his licesnce on his B-Day in July. The lady that inputed the information at the time of us paying put he had his license for 7 years when in fact, at the time in May, it was only 6 years because his birthday hadnt happened yet. She admitted that she inputed the wrong code and messed up. She put in "7A instead of 7C" Obvioudly, her mess up.

We got a bill in the mail yesterday saying we owed them money. I called to find out why figuring it was a mistake because we paid them 6 months in advance. I was told the above and that 30$ of the money owed was for "the computer error made by the person" I said, "I will be happy to pay you what i owe, but I am NOT paying for someone elses mistake!" The manage then claimed because this lady who filled out the information was below him, then it would come out of his paycheck. I'm not sure if i believe that.

  1. For auto insurance the quick way to get a low quote is do a rate comparison on car policies. Make sure that you compare similar options with the same limits, car make, location, etc so that all things are an accurate comparison.

What I most often recommend is an internet comparison quote at http://www.InsureAutoNow.info since they have big name insurers and can give multiple quotes on auto insurance polices.

  2. These people are what I refer to as 'insurance sympathizers' that give the big rich companies the rights or at least sides with them in all matters.

I am not an insurance sympathizer - I think they are the scum of the earth - that's been my experience with the insurance companies.

I'm with you - I wouldn't pay it & I'd contact my attorney (my attorney is my brother in law so it's no big deal for me -  -)

I'm sorry & stick to your guns!!

  3. Each person that has insurance is rated as a certain class which affects their rates. Your husband should have been rated as a 7A to begin with. So I agree that its a pain to get another bill because someone rated him the wrong way. BUT... if she would've done it correctly and rated him as a 7A to begin with... you still would've paid that money up front.

I don't think that this is considered unethical. Because either way you would've owed that money.

** You're not paying a "computer error fee"... you are paying what you owed from the beginning. Maybe the way they explained it to you was confusing... but if she would've done it correcly to start w/... you would've had to pay that $30 anyways **

  4. wow you are really hard on people aren't you!  have you NEVER made a human error in your life?  the principal agent should have offered to pay it for you but in reality it IS what you  owe for coverage so you are responsible for it.  It IS unfortunate that the person made a mistake but I bet if it was an error in your favor you wouldn't mind at all.  we are all humans and we all make mistakes.  Its $30 and if you were my client, we would have probably paid it just to calm you down.  If you are that upset about it, find a new agent.

  5. I think you need to go to a regional director for State Farm and explain the situation. I think the manager is handing you a crock. You should not be paying for an input error and it does not seem in the least bit reasonable that anyone is being charged $30.00 for an input error. That is preposterous. Something else is going on here that is for sure.

If you do not get anywhere with the regional manager/director call the Insurance Board. Every state has a department in the state that oversees insurance.

DO NO PAY IT...  I don't believe the manager is paying it out of his pocket. You have no reason to feel guilty and why should it be you that is out the 30 dollars and not the person who made the mistake or the manager? If it has to fall on someone's shoulders it shouldn't be yours. You are the innocent victims here lets not lose sight of that. :) Good luck!
