Question:

Car Insurance in the UK - anyone had this problem?

I recently purchased car insurance online, had my payment accepted and thought nothing more of it - got on with my life. However, a little over two weeks later I was pulled over by the police and told I had no insurance. Rather than allowing me to buy insurance there and then, they impound the car for which I'll get charged £105 plus £12 per day until I can get a certificate of insurance. I will be fined £200 and have 6 points added to my license. No money has been taken by the insurer from my bank account nor do I have an email notification of the policy being accepted. I've since phoned the insurers who have no record of my original quote (though they do have a record of an amended different quote under the same reference number as my first quote) and bought my insurance to get my car back. Has anyone else had this problem?

  1. Gavin W, I recommend an online insurance quote. It's free and generally hassle free. http://www.easyautoinsuranceguide.com

    Good Luck.

  2. It just goes to show that it pays to make sure you get a confirmation email so you know you are covered. Insurance is one of those things that warrant a bit of a priority over other things in life.

I think that £200 and have 6 points on the licence is quite reasonable, not at all bad for being picked up without insurance so it could have been worse.

  3. For automobile insurance the most efficient way to get a very good rate is do a policy comparison on car policies. Make sure that you pick similar policies with the same deductibles, car model, zip code, etc so that all things are a good comparison.

What I usually recommend is an internet comparison quote at http://www.InsureAutoNow.info since they have top name insurers and can give many quotes on auto insurance polices.

  4. Yes it has happened and i demanded they come to my house to see my certificate. Which they said no and i had to call someone from home to bring the certificate and then they let me go.

Its not a problem all you have to do is appeal, then they will take you to court and you show the certificate at that time. If you really did have insurance they will know by the date on the certificate and the date you got done by the police.

The other reason i would not have this problem is because you havent got insurance and i would make sure i have. You obviously are lying they havent taken money out?, you dont have confirmation of any sort?, all you have is a quote, well a quote doesnt mean your covered for insurance mate. You need to move on, and realise your own mistakes.

One more thing its very very good, they should get you cheats off the road, without insurance your just messing us all up, now get a job and then you might get some insurance and a proper one this time.

Edit: you wrote, there was no transaction from your bank account, how did you pay?
