Question:

Car Ownership Papers?

I am interested in buying a Chevrolet Nova, but the seller does not have the ownership papers. He still possesses the VIN Number, and is the owner of the car, but he just does not have the physical papers. Can he still sell me the car? Does he need to go to an insurance agency to reprint them or something?

Any help would be appreciate. And I live in British Columbia, Canada.

  1. learn to understand some basic knowledge of your confused field before accepting any suggestion is a great idea. Here is great place to get start.http://car-insurance.online-helpers.info...

  2. (In the USA)....He cannot sell you the car without furnishing you with a merchantable title.  I assume it is the same in Canada.  The insurance company has nothing to do with the title for a car.  Bottom line:  He must furnish you with the title.  Maybe he can get one from the DMV ?

  3. In the USA a duplicate title of the car runs about $25.00. I would not buy a car without one.

  4. In the USA the VIN is on the car itself, of course he has the numbers. The insurance does not have the papers he has to get the title form the department of Motor Vehicles, and he cannot sell you the car without this. The car is not legally yours until you sign the title yourself, and itd be stupid to buy a car that you cannot get papers for because its probably stolen. And you will not be able to prove you didnt steal it.
