Question:

Car Pooling with friend?

I have offered to pick up my friend after work on my way home. Her work is literally on my way and her house is a mile from my house.

But usually I'm idling my car because she doesn't come out right away, even though I get there 20 minutes after her day ends. When I pull up in her driveway, she is still chit-chatting for a few more minutes before finally getting out.

However, I'm getting frustrated because she hasn't offered any gas money. I didn't ask before because she had just started her new job after 5 months of looking & two, it's literally on my way.

I'm debating about asking her to contribute to gas. With the increasing gas prices and the she would be paying a LOT more if she had to get a taxi or her own car. She has never owned a car in her life.

She never offers to help in this aspect. I've had to confronted her feeling used in the past and it had gotten better.

Would you be offended if someone you were car-pooling with asked you for $10 a week towards gas?

  1. To me, she sounds a little selfish and inconsiderate. I mean, she's getting free transportation, and keeps you waiting while she chats, and doesn't even have the decency to OFFER to help pay for gas. She has no class. STOP helping her out unless you think there may be some "special" reward in the future, but again, since she has no class, I doubt THAT is forthcoming either.

You know what they used to say back in the hippie days back in the 60's: a**, gas, or grass, nobody rides for free.

  2. personally, you wouldn't even have to ask me.  I would offer.  Plus the extra weight in your car does affect your gas mileage, so it would not at all be rude, anyway 10 dollars a week for transportation to and from work is already a steal.
